A-BOVE and BEYOND photography...
Hi there, my name is Alessandro Bove and I am a photography enthusiast. My interest for photography started in the summer of 2013 when a friend sold me his Canon EOS 1000D with a kit lens, a telephoto zoom and a tripod. The main reason behind this purchase was not so much a real interest in photography, but the fact that I viewed it as a bargain and I did not own a camera other than the one on my smartphone. I admit that at first I had no idea how to use the thing! I was completely oblivious to how the “Av”, “Tv” and “M” modes actually worked. I would go around shooting in the fully automatic mode and was quite happy with the resulting photographs since the image quality and resolution size were quite good. I would often think, “those camera modes are for professional photographers anyways, right??” I was a bit curious whether I could get more out of my camera by understanding how the camera itself worked, but I decided that would come later on as it was not a top priority at the moment. As that year's autumn quickly rolled into fall I found myself with some free time on the weekends so I decided to go ahead and enroll in an introductory photography course. It was during this time that a genuine personal interest for photography was awoken within me. I learnt the basics about photography and how my camera worked and did in fact see that I could get a lot more out of my Canon. I was happy that I had picked up a nice hobby and thought that the skill would come in handy in the future. I thought about it as just that, a hobby and a skill that I was grateful to have learnt. Shortly after being done with my course, a friend and incredible photographer, Sam Gillespie, invited me to go with him on a photography trip to India; I, not wanting to regret this opportunity, accepted his invite without thinking it twice. After hurrying to get my Indian visa I was on my way to New Delhi that following month! It was on that incredibly hectic, yet amazingly colorful and beautiful country that I really became passionate about photography. India is basically any photographer's paradise for taking great photos and my work is proof of that, however, I came back from India feeling proud of my work but with an even greater urge to better my photography skills. Seeing my friend shoot and learning from him really inspired me to work harder and be more enthusiastic about my own work. So, this is the short story of how I got to where I am today, still learning more and more about photography and loving every single minute! Thank you Carlos Vasquez, for selling me your camera, and Sam Gillespie, for inspiring me. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for you both.
I currently shoot with two camera bodies, my new Canon EOS 70D and EOS 1000D. The reason for shooting with two different camera bodies is to avoid changing lenses. I usually have the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 on my EOS 1000D for Portraits and close ups and the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 or Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 on my EOS 70D for the rest of the shooting I do.On the photos below you can see some of the modest equipment I use. I hope to one day shoot FULL FRAME with faster lenses, but until then, these are more than enough for the work I do.
